Background Checks

The purpose of the Department of Recreation and Parks Background Check Program is to ensure that every individual who interacts with children undergoes a criminal history records check. The objective of the Background Check Program is to provide parents with peace of mind knowing their children are provided a safe and positive experience.

Should you plan to coach or assist the head coach you must get a background check done.

Common Questions and Answers

  1. When are practices? Practices are usually twice a week. Please remember our coaches are volunteers, all our coaches have jobs and families, we work with our coaches and their availability-  meaning some coaches can only have a longer practice once a week. We also run into gym space, we do have seasons that we have an increase of players and can only have one practice a week. But normally twice a week.
  2. When are games?
    1. During the Spring season games are on Saturdays.
    2. During the Fall season games are on Sundays.  During the Fall season the County Commissioner develops the Game Schedule.
  3. Can my athlete play another sport or do another activity AND volleyball? Yes. We work with those athletes who do other activities. We make adjustments the first week of the season. If we can not make it work, we do offer a refund.
  4. My player is interested in playing BUT has never played before, can we sign our child up? YES! A lot of players are experiencing volleyball for the first time. They will learn the game very quickly.
  5. When will the game schedule be released? Game schedules are released the first week of practice. .
  6. When will the season begin and end?
    1. The Spring season usually begins late March/beginning of April until May/June.
    2. The Fall season usually begins the first week of school for  AACPS and ends in October.
    3. Please keep in mind we use permits for the schools and schools do host events/functions that interfere with our program- we might have to make adjustments as the season is running.
  7. Why does volleyball cost $130? Players will receive a jersey/shirt. The cost of equipment (balls, carts, bags, pole pads), first aid kits, shipping costs, referees, school rentals, county permits, & administration fees (such as the registration & use of the website).
  8. I would love to volunteer and help the volleyball program, How do I do that? Please email me, gorcvolleyball@gmail.com! WE NEED THE HELP!
