Help us Improve the Park

GORC Families,

I am writing today to ask your help to advocate for our organization and community. As many of you know or have experienced, our population has outgrown our current facilities as we try to serve its athletic needs. This has resulted in having to turn away participants, difficulty scheduling games and practices and a lack of parking.

In January, we took the first step to improving our facilities by requesting a feasibility study of GORC Park (see below) to improve parking, water, field utilization and facility usage. County Executive Steve Schuh released his 2017 budget and this study was not included. We have watched as neighboring communities in Severna Park, Pasadena and soon Crofton have seen improvements to their facilities. It is important for Gambrills & Odenton to have adequate recreational facilities as well.

To do this, we need your help!  I have already written Mr. Schuh (see letter below), but more requests from our members will assist us greatly in this effort.  Please reach out to the County Executive (exschu00@aacounty.organd tell him to fund the GORC Park Feasibility Study. Below are some of the reasons why we feel this study is important:

  • Our organization has a record number of teams and participants. Lack of facilities should not be a reason that we are unable to accommodate further growth.
  • Parking continues to be a large concern for our families as well as affecting the neighborhoods that surround the park.
  • Reconfiguration of fields and amenities might allow better optimization of the facilities.
  • Improvements such as irrigation, lighting and other capital projects would improve the facility.

GORC Park is an asset to our community and we should work towards making sure that it is able to fully support our needs. We are working with our county Councilman, Andrew Pruski, and he is in full support of our request. If you're interested in contacting other County Council members, their contact information can be found here.

Feel free to contact us with any questions. Thank you for your support.

Regards,
Mike Pozdol
