Family Fee

So what does your GORC Family Fee cover?  Where does the money go?  What about improvements in the park?  Many of you have asked these questions and we wanted to make them available for you so you can understand how our organization works.

Did you know?

  • Gambrills Odenton Recreation Council (GORC) is a Level One Youth Accredited Organization with Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks.
  • GORC is the Maintenance Grant holder for GORC / Odenton Park.  As the grant holder we are required to do the following:
    • Remove Trash – Regularly pick up and remove trash (within 24 hours of a scheduled event) to keep the park litter free.
    • Mow Grass – Cut and trim grass on the fields and common areas to include grass and vine growth in fences and all growth within three (3) feet of fences.
    • Drag Fields – Drag baseball, softball, or tee-ball infields to inhibit growth of unwanted vegetation.
    • Line Fields – Mark fields as appropriate for sporting events.
    • Maintain Fields – Carry out minor field maintenance, such as repairing erosion.
    • Monitor Lights – Turn field lights on/off for events.
    • Maintain Restrooms – Open, close, and clean restrooms for events at the park and furnish restroom supplies.
    • Operate Gates – Open, close and secure park gates from dawn to dusk.

GORC's operating costs are barely covered by the maintenance grant from the county.  It covers less than 11% of our operating costs and less than 16% of our maintenance costs.  Therefore, it is family fees that allow the park to be maintained and the organization to be able to function.

Registration costs within each sport only cover the costs associated with playing that particular sport (i.e. league fees, uniforms, equipment, referee fees, etc.).  Sport commissioners are required to submit an annual budget to the Board of Directors for approval to ensure that the sport is self-sufficient and can cover its own operating costs.

Finally, this leaves very little to make any capital improvements around the park and try to improve our facilities.  In the coming year, we plan on increasing our fundraising efforts and work to allow us to make the improvements we know are necessary and needed.
